| New window I'll never forget the day I noticed my grandmother's antique oak dining table had developed a strange pale rectangle right where the sun hit it every afternoon. My Edinburgh flat has this gorgeous bay window that I fell in love with when I first viewed the place, but it's turned out to be a double-edged sword. The light is beautiful, but it's been slowly destroying my belongings. My green velvet sofa has faded to a weird yellowish-green on one side, my books have bleached spines, and I even noticed my own skin was feeling drier and more sun-exposed than it should be indoors. I tried everything – heavy curtains that made the room feel like a tomb, repositioning furniture, even applying sunscreen indoors like a complete weirdo. Nothing worked. Then a colleague who works at the National Gallery mentioned they use specialist film to protect priceless paintings, and I realised I could do the same for my own treasures. I started researching and found https://www.tintfit.com/shop/uv-protection. I was initially sceptical – would it make my flat look dark and miserable? But the film is practically invisible. You genuinely can't tell it's there. It blocks over 99% of UV rays while letting all the beautiful light pour through. Installation was a doddle – just soapy water, a squeegee, and about twenty minutes of my time. Now my flat still floods with gorgeous, bright light, but my furniture is finally safe. No more fading, no more squinting at my laptop screen, and the room actually feels cooler in summer. It's one of those rare fixes that protects both your belongings and your health. I can't believe I didn't do it years ago.
