Rhythms of Joy and Hope TRIVENI DANCE ENSEMBLE presents “Rhythms of Joy and Hope” in three styles of classical Indian dance. The event will benefit the tsunami relief efforts of Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi of Amritapuri, Kerala, in the southern tip of India, www.amma.org. "Known worldwide simply as Amma or Ammachi, the spiritual leader and humanitarian from southern India hugs for hours and hours, cradling adults like babies, whispering comforting words and showering them with rose petals and, as a sweet offering, Hershey's Kisses. For 25 years, Amma's spiritual hugs and charitable works, including orphanages, women's shelters, hospices and vocational education programs for the poor, have helped her to become what many Hindus and non-Hindus consider a living saint. " - Los Angeles Times, 2000 Sponsors of the show include Saheli, Friendship for South Asian Women and Brookline Adult and Community Education. The India Development and Relief Fund will match all funds raised. The recital will be presented by Neena Gulati, a master Indian classical dancer accompanied by her senior ensemble of captivating dancers. Classical Indian dance is deeply rooted in spirituality. Through its rhythmic and expressive elements, the dancer experiences a range of emotions and shares them with the audience. Triveni Dance Ensemble, an exciting and well-known performing group in Boston, hopes to share the sheer joy of rhythm interpreted through three classical dance forms. Several contemporary pieces will showcase the timelessness of these dance styles.
