Saheli-Women Friendship and Support Group Saheli’s New Initiative: Women’s Friendship and Support Group Saheli, an organization dedicated to empowering South Asian Women and Families is extending support and friendship towards women via their new program. Recently, the nonprofit started a support group that aims to empower women by building positive self-esteem in healthy relationships. The support group is being led by Salita Mehta, Domestic Violence Advocate and Rita Shah, Family Services Coordinator. Details on when and where the support group will be held are below: When: Every Wednesday for 8 weeks – Will end on November 18, 2015. Time: 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm Where: 11 Bedford Street, Burlington, MA Women from all religions and age groups, ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation to participate in discussions. This is a wonderful initiative for women, primarily for residents of Massachusetts and New Hampshire to connect and build friendship while knowing their rights and needs. Ms. Salita Mehta explains that this would be an excellent platform for women to share and ask questions related to their wellbeing without any hesitation. She further elaborates that the topics of discussions can be anywhere from coping with emotions, personal needs, healthy relationships or self-esteem to immigration related issues. Saheli encourages women to bring their sisters, daughters, mother, friends or neighbors along to the meeting and witness spirit of togetherness and camaraderie. Salita also highlighted previous achievements from similar programs. She reported that in 2015, 118 clients were served, 305 meetings were held with clients, and that DV advocates put in 672 hours to help survivors.
