Sudha (Lakshmi) Rao 08/21/2007 (This article is sponsored by Sounds Of India) Yamadonga Banner: Sri Viswamitra Creations Cast:NTR, Direction:S.S.Rajamouli Production:Cherry, Urmila CD Released by: Vel Records Lyrics: Anant Sriram and Jonnavithula Music: M.M.Keeravani The music for the Telugu film Yamadonga (composed by MM Keeravani) is a mixed bag of melodic, fast paced, bhangra and folk music. The songs range from ordinary to good and while a few songs are relaxed and mellow, some others are catchy and get your feet tapping while listening to them. This modern day mythological fantasy starring Jr.NTR obviously banks on its animated music to carry the film through. MM Keeravani’s exceptional versatility and multi-faceted talent may not shine through in this album but they are very evident in some of the songs. Bambhanaalaa Chumbanaala is a very short song with sung by Mano and Pranavi with a classical touch.Chalachallagaa gaali , a soft and melodious song sung by the Music Director and Sangeetha. Good song with very simple and efficient orchestration with a semi-classical feel, very reminiscent of the melodies of the eighties………..Naachore Nuvu Mutukunte, sung by Pranavi and KG. Ranjith, this song targets the younger and dancing audience. There is some rapping and good harmony and is very lively and energetic. Olammi Tikkareginda, is neatly done remix of the original (late) NTR song –performed by the new NTR and Mamta Mohandas who also act in the film. The original was a big hit and the composer has retained the tune (with his own variations weaving throughout the song). The CD credits composer Chakravarthi for the original score of this song. This version is equally fast paced and sprightly and the actors who have recorded the song have done a competent job. Rabbaru Gajulu, Keeravani signed up Daler Mehndi to sing this song for the film, supposedly the first time the talented singer is singing for a Telugu film. A very catchy song – with the bhangra beat and earthiness that Daler is famous for – the tune might bring to mind some of his recent hits – but the song still appeals and the tune and beat are lively and the refrain has some fine harmony. Srikaraakarunda, is a short poem/padyam rendered effectively by Mano in a narrative (katha) style to suit the persona of the actor playing Yama.Young Yama, Keeravani opens this song and is joined by Mano and Shankar Mahadevan and Pranavi – a typical folksy and thumpy song. Not a very exciting composition – but with the usual formula that gives it mass appeal! You may also access this article through our web-site http://www.lokvani.com/ |
