South Asian Showdown 2015 was a smashing success. As a nearly sold out show, it was undoubtedly the biggest and one of the best Bollywood/Fusion show in the Boston area.
A total of 11 team from all over North America were in town to represent their respective genres. The winners were:
Rutgers University SAPA - First Prize Storyline - This team conveyed a crash landing on an island, their survival and eventually them getting off the island. This co-ed team had a great combination of dancing, gimmicks, backdrop, and lighting that helped to showcase the beauty of their dance and a great reflection of their theme.
SAPA's dance troupe made history in 2000 by becoming the first co-ed South Asian dance troupe in the US incorporating various elements of dancing. SAPA integrated styles such as Classical, Bollywood, and Hip-Hop to introduce the Rutgers community to a style of dance that was never before seen on campus and soon after, the entire nation. Broadstreet Baadshahz - First Runner Up Storyline - This was an exact duplicate of the Toy Story 1 movie. This boys team did a great job of showcasing energy and numerous dance styles through their dance. The Broad Street Baadshahz are an all male award winning South Asian Fusion Dance Team from the city of brotherly love. An ethnically diverse group comprising of different races and backgrounds, they consider themselves a melting pot that share a common goal of pursuing the passion of dance. University of Virginai Sharaara - Second Runner up Storyline - This was a story about a girl and her troubles with dealing with a very harsh instructor. This girls team did a great team showcasing stunts, gimmicks and great dancing to a unique theme.
Founded in 2003, Sharaara is the UVA's premiere, all-girls competitive Bollywood fusion dance team.
