Ekal Sa Re Ta Re Music Competition A Huge Success


Ekal Youth Leader, Rishabh Tole, organized a Bollywood and western singing competition to help raise funds for Ekal Vidyalaya, an organization that brings education to rural and tribal villages in India. Over 50 participants took part in the competition and helped raise funds for 20 schools catering to 600 children for a whole year. The event was held on Sept 21 at Tufts University in Medford, Ma. The community turned out in force to support ethnic theater, with over 600 theater lovers from New England enjoying the plays on offer.

Spiritual story teller Dushyanth Sridhar, musician Rajkumar Bharati and dancer Anita Guha joined hands to produce a spectacular dance drama based on the Narayaneeyam. The production was a fundraiser to support Aim for Seva, an organization that is bringing education to underprivileged children in India. The program was presented at the Regis College on Sep. 22nd.

The Shamee Vriksha/Banni Mara/tree (Prosopis cineraria) is found in dry and arid regions at low altitudes. In Tamil, it is called Vanni, in Telugu Jammi, in Sanskrit Shamee, Saikanta in Bengali, Gonharea in Oriya, Loong Tree in Rajasthan, Jand in Punjabi and in Hindi Khejri. The decomposed leaves add nutrients (nitrogen) to the soil, thereby enhancing the growth and productivity of the crop.
