World-jazz Group Natraj 25th Anniversary Show
Featuring special guest, Chennai-based Indian percussion virtuoso, T. K. Ramakrishnan

World-jazz ensemble Natraj celebrates its 25th anniversary with a concert. This show features guest, Chennai-based Indian percussion virtuoso, T. K. Ramakrishnan, on mridangam and solkattu. All ages are welcome. For tickets and information, contact 617-395-7757 or www.regattabarjazz.com.

Playfully intricate South Indian rhythms; hard-driving African grooves; sure-fingered, nuanced tabla; fluid, soaring violin; and emotive raga-based soprano saxophone… genres and influences weave a graceful but adventurous tapestry.

Long-time Natraj collaborator Mridanga Vidwan T. K. Ramakrishnan brings his percussive wizardry to Natraj’s world-jazz for Natraj’s 25th anniversary show, featuring the band’s contemporary approach to tradition-rooted music. Ramakrishnan is a master of the South Indian mridangam (barrel-shaped hand drum) and solkattu (rhythmic recitation). He is showcased in the soundtrack of the classic film Gandhi and recordings with sitar maestro Ravi Shankar.
