The Journey of Bharatanatyam THE JOURNEY OF BHARATANATYAM - PREMIERING JUNE 2, 2012 As the name suggests, this dance feature is inspired by the rich history of Bharatanatyam, a South-Indian classical dance form, and its evolution over a 2000-year period. This feature takes you through the time-travel covering mythological and historical aspects of the story using the medium of music, dance, and narration. You can witness the major events, including the birth of the dance form, the period of glory, the renaissance and the modern day Bharatanatyam. This is a soulful journey, not only of the dance form, but also of the dancers -- or the Devadasis -- themselves, who provided the social and cultural dimension for this journey. The evening will also include additional Bharatanatyam performances, and a short Odissi dance performance.
