The Journey of Bharatanatyam
THE JOURNEY OF BHARATANATYAM - PREMIERING JUNE 2, 2012 As the name suggests, this dance feature is inspired by the rich history of Bharatanatyam, a South-Indian classical dance form, and its evolution over a 2000-year period. This feature takes you through the time-travel covering mythological and historical aspects of the story using the medium of music, dance, and narration. You can witness the major events, including the birth of the dance form, the period of glory, the renaissance and the modern day Bharatanatyam. This is a soulful journey, not only of the dance form, but also of the dancers -- or the Devadasis -- themselves, who provided the social and cultural dimension for this journey. The evening will also include additional Bharatanatyam performances, and a short Odissi dance performance. Directions: On Street Parking: Meters are available on the streets throughout Central Square. Meters are free after 6:00 PM. Parking Lots: There are 3 municipal lots along Bishop Allen Drive that are free after 6:00 pm. There is also a very large private lot on Prospect Street that is free and open to the public after 5:00 pm. The Green Street Garage is located on the corner of Green St. and Pearl St. Enter the garage by going down Pearl St. for one block (Pearl St. is parallel to Prospect St., one block east of Prospect St.) and then taking a right onto Green St. The entrance to the garage is on your left.
