Saheli Book Club meets on April 15th
Book discussion will take place during the Saheli meeting on Sunday, April 15th at 2 PM. The author will join us via Skype at 2:30 PM for half an hour. Here is a glimpse into the Taj trilogy - The Twentieth Wife, Feast of Roses and Shadow Princess written by Indu Sundaresan. The stories are about powerful women in the Mughal dynasty and the political intrigues that go in the royal court. Mehrunisa, the twentieth wife of Emperor Jahangir, is the central character in The Twentieth Wife and Feast of Roses. Jahanara, the daughter of Mumtaz Mahal, in whose memory Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal, is the main force to be reckoned with in Shadow Princess, and her rivalry with her sister Roshanara is not just personal but can determine who will ascend the throne after Shah Jahan. Just as the Taj Mahal has immortalized Shah Jahan's love for Mumtaz, Sundaresan's books have described for fiction lovers the love that Jahangir bore for his twentieth wife, Mehrunisa and the power that she wielded in the courts. Her descriptions of royal splendor, the opulence, pomp and pageantry are extremely vivid and the narratives about life in the king's harem, the plotting and scheming that goes on are authentic. Three books that bring to life the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. To find more information about the author and her books, go to www.indusundaresan.com.
