Introductory workshop on Kathak / Urmi Samadar Kathak is a Northern Indian classical dance that has developed and evolved over centuries. Originating from the performances of the nomadic storytellers, the earliest rendition of its current form developed in the 13th century. Kathak is influenced by temple art, Indian mythology, features of Persian dances and elements of court dances of 14th century Mughal era. Kathak is famous for its intricate footwork, complex rhythmic variations, delicate facial expressions and pirouettes. It is also the only Indian classical dance form that has elements similar to Western forms such as Ballet, Tap and Flamenco.
