SAJA presents authors: Shankar Vedantam and Anand Giridhardas Vedantam will talk about his new book ‘The Hidden Brain: How our Unconscious Minds Elect Presidents, Control Markets, Wage Wars and Save Our Lives’ and Giridhardas will talk about his recent reporting experiences in India as well as his forthcoming book ‘India Calling.’ Shankar Vedantam is an author, a national reporter at The Washington Post, and a 2009-2010 Nieman Fellow at Harvard University. Between 2006 and 2009, Vedantam wrote the popular Washington Post column, Department of Human Behavior. Vedantam has lectured at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government and is an adjunct professor of journalism at Columbia University. Giridhardas is a writer livÂing in CamÂbridge, WashÂingÂton and BomÂbay. His first book, a work of narÂraÂtive nonÂficÂtion about his return to the India that his parÂents left, is forthÂcomÂing from Times Books in early 2011. It is titled “India Calling.†He is a columÂnist for The New York Times and its global ediÂtion, the InterÂnaÂtional HerÂald TriÂbune: his “CurÂrents†colÂumn explores fresh ideas, global culÂture and the social meanÂing of techÂnolÂogy. He just comÂpleted a four-and-a-half-year tour as a forÂeign corÂreÂsponÂdent in India for The Times and the HerÂald TriÂbune, as their first BomÂbay presÂence in the modÂern era. He reported for four years on India’s transÂforÂmaÂtion, BolÂlyÂwood, corÂpoÂrate takeovers, terÂrorÂism, outÂsourcÂing, poverty and democÂracy.
