Ardhanareshwar Shiva Shakti / Triveni Ensemble On Sunday April 18, Neena Gulati’s Triveni Ensemble will present 'Ardhanareshwar Shiva Shakti' at Hellenic College in Brookline. Ardhanareshwar is the half-male, half-female form of the god Shiva and the goddess Shakti. The performance will explore this duality through the classical Indian dance forms of Bharata Natyam, Odissi and Kuchipudi. Neena Gulati and the Triveni Ensemble are well known for their contemporary work and work with poetry interpretation. This concert will include dance interpretations of poetry recited in English on the theme of Ardhanareshwar. The performance will also feature a return performance by Cape Cod African Dance & Drum, featuring Samba Cisse. Last Spring, Triveni collaborated with Cape Cod African Dance & Drum to create a contemporary work combining Indian classical movement and rhythm with African drumming. This year, Tara Murphy of Cape Cod African Dance & Drum will collaborate with the Triveni Ensemble bringing African movement into the mix. Triveni has also invited visiting artist Pradhuman Nayak to choreograph movement from the South Indian martial art form of Kalaripayattu into this growing and changing collaboration. This year’s concert will benefit the Hyderabad Children’s Aid Society, providing education to underprivileged children in India since 1950.
