Genetic Insights into the History and Diversity of Indian People Harvard University Department of Sanskrit and Indian Studies Outreach Lecture Fall 2009 Indian Society through the Ages Lecture I 'Genetic Insights into the History and Diversity of Indian People' Dr. David Reich Associate Professor Harvard Medical School. Abstract: Over time, India has been a melting-pot of people, religions, customs and languages. A tentative genetic map of its current inhabitants is offered by this lecture, which describes results of a study using the latest techniques of statistical sampling and genetic classification. The study analyzes the genetic characteristics of twenty-five diverse caste and tribal groups selected around the country. The study, its techniques and possible di! rections of future research will be presented in this public lecture.
