Folk Art of India Madhubani paintingss by Sunanda Sahay Exhibition-------2nd Jan-31st Jan Meet the artist--10th Jan, 2.30-4.30 Artist, Sunanda Sahay, grew up in Darbhanga, the heart of the Madhubani region in northern India, where she learned and practiced the local folk art of the Madhubani School of Painting. The paintings have retained their simplistic folk origins. The works are true to the traditional themes of mythology and social custom and retain the dense, arching, and bright strokes in primary colors characteristic of the art. Madhubani paintings have customarily been practiced exclusively by women. The paintings in the display depict scenes from the two great Indian epic poems--the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, capturing the philosophical sensibilities of the noble classics.
