An Evening Of Ghazals With Deepak Kumar Pareek Deepak Kumar Pareek will be performing an all-ghazal concert with accompaniment by Samuel Burke playing tabla and Rachel Golub, violinist. Ghazals are based on the ancient poetic form that is a series of couplets or "shers" with each one being a complete poem. Ghazals have traditional themes based on romantic love and mysticism with origins in 10th Century Persia. Sung in Urdu, the songs are often metaphors for spiritual love. Born into a musical family in Rajasthan, India, Deepak's musical education began at the age of five with his father Shri P.N. Vyas as his first teacher and he continued his studies with Ustad Moinuddin Khan and Mohinderjit Singh. Deepak's singing has enthralled both Indian and Western audiences through its universal language of love, and he is considered to have one of the best voices of his generation. His music crosses all cultural boundaries and touches the deepest part of the soul. Deepak recently toured the U.S. with MUSAFIR, the world-renowned Rajasthani gypsy troupe.
