COPLEY SOLIDARITY HUNGER FASTERS TO SUPPORT BHOPAL GAS SURVIVORS
At 10:30 AM Saturday, a group of Boston-area students and professionals will express their support for the Bhopal Disaster survivors by participating in a solidarity hunger fast. The survivors of the world’s worst industrial disaster which has been ongoing in Bhopal since 1984 are currently in New Delhi. After the Indian government has ‘repeatedly neglected’ their demands for essential rights such as basic healthcare and sanitation, they have resorted to an indefinite hunger strike. Their Boston-area supporters will raise public awareness of the situation, and some of them will also be fasting for one or several days to pressure the Indian authorities to respond to the Bhopal survivors’ demands.
