Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, also known as “Ammaâ€, is the founder of a global network of charitable and humanitarian service organizations and champion of women's rights. Amma has donated 46 million dollars (largest private donor) towards the tsunami relief efforts and $1,000,000 to the Bush-Clinton Hurricane Katrina fund. Her charitable activities include a program to build 100,000 homes for the poor, pension disbursements to 50,000+ widows, the construction and oversight of hospitals, universities, schools, orphanages, hospices, women's shelters, community aid centers and homes for the aged, as well as programs for the preservation and protection of the environment.
