Giving Smart / Getting Impact: New Models of Social Philanthropy
Desh Deshpande, Founder & Chairman of Sycamore Networks, will be talking about his work through the Deshpande Foundation, which supports breakthrough social and technology ventures around the world. Miki Akimoto, Vice President at Associated Grant Makers and co-Founder of Saffron Circle, will be discussing the innovative giving circle model that Saffron has deployed to engage young professionals.

The non-profit sector is the fastest growing industry sector around the world. In 2006, charitable giving in the US was $295 billion, setting a new annual record. Each year, 65% of American families contribute to charity. But, with more than 1.6 million non-profits in the US alone, the non-profit sector is highly fragmented and continues to be faced with unclear metrics of performance / impact. Deciding where and how to give remains a constant challenge for individuals and families committed to philanthropy.

Join us as TiE draws on a panel of innovative philanthropists with a deep interest in social impact. From family foundations to giving circles, these entrepreneurs are creating innovative, individualized models of giving that (1) deliver high social impact; (2) ensure effective use of capital; and (3) meet personal goals.
