Aparna Sindhoor & Dancers Ms. Aparna Sindhoor will be performing "Refugee Ragas" and excerpts from "A Story and A Song" in the historic halls of the Massachusetts State House in Boston, on Apr 26 2007 at 7PM. This performance is a part of the "Transforming violence: Celebrating Transformative power of art" event. Performances commence at 3PM About the Performance: Refugee Ragas is a solo dance performance, that explores the ravages of war from the experiences and perspective of women refugees. "A Story and a Song" is a new production that has been developed based on women's stories. An interactive dialogue between Kannada folk tales and Native American tales--along with narratives from contemporary grandmothers, friends & family--it is a tale of women, environment & love. The performance encompasses spoken word, dance, theater & contact improvisation in a powerful way. A Story and A Song will be touring in the US soon. Two dancers, Anil Kumar and Pratheesh Sivanad, are arriving from India this month to work with Aparna Sindhoor. About Navarasa: Navarasa Dance Theater was founded by renowned choreographer/dancer, Aparna Sindhoor in 1991 in Mysore, India. She has garnered international acclaim for uniting traditional forms with contemporary themes of social relevance. Since moving to the U.S. in 1996, Navarasa has presented to diverse audiences at libraries, colleges, dance festivals & Community Church (!), even at a World Social Forum. They have also toured extensively in North America, Europe and India, where they performed earlier this winter.
