Dance Like A Man / Play Harvard SAA (South Asian Association) & SAATh (South Asian American Theatre) proudly present DANCE LIKE A MAN Directed by: Irfan Malik and Niroshi Senaratne Produced by: Prerna Martin Mahesh Dattani's play 'Dance Like a Man' is a story of the passing of an era in the lives of two dancers along with the issues of gender and changes in a world that is set according to its implicit rules: Particularly, that of a man in a woman's world, of men who choose a profession that is discordant with conventional expectations, of fathers who wish to make the best of a disappointing situation, of daughters who are their mothers' deferred dreams and of women who will not stop at anything to realize their dreams. This is a play where sounds of dancing bells, drive for social reforms, gender expectations, ambition, guilt and the demands of a “man’s world†wrought with prosaic commerce clash against a backdrop spanning three generations. The art of Bharatanatyam, a dance form of the temple and court-dancers in pre-colonial and colonial South India, is the thread that strings all the characters in an intense, often humorous and sometimes disconcertingly edgy drama. Dattani's play is considered by many to be a milestone in original English Theatre in India. It has completed over 250 shows worldwide, has been adapted as screenplay and moreover, is a celebration of contemporary Indian Theatre in English as a genre in itself. Featuring: Sudarshan Belsare, Ritambhara Kumar, Gokul Madhavan, Ramya Parthasarathy and Michael Singh Three shows on April, 26, 27 and 28.
