Study of Shankaracharya Vivekachudamani
We shall continue the study of Shankaracharya's Vivekachudamani ("Crest Jewel of Discrimination"), the 8th century text that summarizes the essence of Vedanta. As usual, the class will begin with prayer and guided meditation. Having concluded the discussion on the non-Self elements of the human personality, we are now studying the concealment of the Self by ignorance (137-147), the method to overcome the ignorance (148), and an analysis of the five layers of the non-Self covering the Self (149-209).
