Santoor Maestro - Pundit Nandkishor Muley
Offices of Student life and Multicultural Affairs at Rhode Island School Design present a Raagmaala concert featuring acclaimed SANTOOR (Hammerred Dulcimer) player Pundit NANDKISHOR MULEY with Shri ADITYA KALYANPUR on Tabla.
Nandkishor grew up in a family of distinguished musicians. He received extensive training in vocal music, classical Kathak dance and Tabla. He is a disciple of the legendary Pundit Shivkumar Sharma. In Indian context the word music or “sangeetâ€, includes vocal and instrumental music and dance. Dance is conceptually not separated from the music. His knowledge of rhythm has added to his musical improvisation.
Nandkishor has played in concerts and festivals in India, France, Finland, Russia, and the United States, to name a few. He is a recipient of the coveted "Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik" Award (equivalent of Grammy in Germany). Shri Muley currently resides in Berlin and performs and teaches around the world to increase awareness, understanding and appreciation of Indian Classical Music. Shri Aditya Kalyanpur is a disciple of the renowned percussionist Ustad Alla Rakha. “Alla Rakha’s foremost student in this part of the world†(Tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain) “... among the world’s greatest percussionists†(Wembly Conference Centre) Aditya Kalyanpur performed a solo during a Rolling Stones concert held in Bombay He also recorded with their saxophone player Tim Reis. He has performed globally with several eminent Indian Musicians. Aditya has also performed on MTV, Sahara TV and Zee TV etc.
