Raja and Radha Reddy - Kuchipudi Dance The classical dance form Kuchipudi-which derives its name from the village Kuchelapuram in South India, where it was nurtured by scholars and artists - makes use of both rhythmic footwork and sculpturesque body poses. Stylized mime combines with more realistic acting using hand gestures, facial expressions and, occasionally, dialogue. World-renowned dancing couple Raja and Radha Reddy bring new dimension to Kuchipudi without sacrificing traditional poetry or dramatic sensibility. Performing at PEM with a nine-member ensemble, the couple was the first to receive two of the highest-ranking civilian awards in India.
