Two Indian Plays in English Two plays by Stage Ensemble Theatre Unit (SETU) (www.setu.us) Plays: Girish Karnad's's HAYAVADANA & Rama Joardar's THE BACK DOOR When: May 12, 13, 19, 20, 2006 (both plays will be staged on all 4 days) Time: 7:00pm (Friday, May 12 & 19) and 6:00pm (Saturday, May 13 & 20) Where: Arlington Center for the Arts, Arlington, MA Tickets: $7 (student & senior citizen) and $10 (adult) For tickets and other information, please visit web site at www.setu.us or email at contact@setu.us Hayavadana, meaning "a man with a horse's head", explores the destructive effects on the close friendship between the "intellectual" Devadatta and the "man of the body" Kapila after the arrival of Devadatta's wife Padmini, who adored Devadatta's intellect but loved Kapila's physique. The play philosophically explores the age-old question about the superiority between head and body, when the friends kill themselves over their failed love, but resurrected with their heads dramatically transposed. (Viewer discretion advised for Hayavadana) The Back Door is a brief living room drama surprisingly reveals the characters' inner emotions.
