Is Good Environment Good Business?
The combination of profitability and environmental protection is the holy grail of ecological economics. Indeed, historically one has come at the expense of the other. Are the two mutually exclusive or can they be symbiotic? Panelists will discuss the challenges in Asia in preserving natural resources, mitigating environmental risk, exploring renewable energy sources, and examining business models that incorporate these best practices. Please join us for a lunchtime discussion that will present two distinct perspectives on this increasingly complex and critical issue.

Discussants:
Russell Leiman, Managing Director, Asia-Pacific Region, The Nature Conservancy. While focused on policy and finance issues, Mr. Leiman has led the Conservancy’s efforts to define opportunities for private sector conservation finance, including corporate debt-for-nature swaps.

Peter Rose, Director of Media Relations and Managing Director, Goldman Sachs. Mr. Rose has directed corporate communications for the firm throughout Asia as Goldman Sachs has become a business leader in China and the region.

Moderator:
Arun Kashyap, Private Sector Development Advisor, Bureau for Development Policy, United Nations Development Programme. Mr. Kashyap is internationally recognized as an expert on human capacity development for the environment and sustainable development.
