The Secret of the Vedas: Sri Aurobindos Interpretation Harvard University Department of Sanskrit and Indian Studies Outreach Lecture Spring 2006 "The Secret of the Vedas: Sri Aurobindo's Interpretation" Dr. Kumar Nochur Chairman, New England Hindu Temple Inc, Ashland Abstract: In traditional Hindu circles and among academic scholars, the Vedas are considered to be hymns and chants for religious rituals. Some scholars have also used them as sources of history to understand life in early India. Sri Aurobindo, a twentieth century Indian mystic, analyzed the Vedas and found them to be a coded manual of revelations about the mysteries of life and the Ultimate Reality. We will discuss the decoding as done by Sri Aurobindo and his school and explore the implications of the secret of the Vedas for research and practice.
