Contemporary Indian Dance and Dance Narratives Workshop This workshop will explore aspects of creating dance narratives through movement, elements of theatre and music. In the workshop the participants will be exposed to some technical training in Bharatanatyam and yoga, as well as innovative styles that will enable them to explore new realms of creative expressions. Sindhoor creates a unique vocabulary of dancing that is rooted in tradition at the same time embraces new movements and meanings and making it contemporary. Using and challenging diverse artistic forms and improvisation, participants will learn to create dance through non-conventional perspectives. A method developed by Aparna Sindhoor has been used in productions with Navarasa Dance Theater and Teesri Duniya Theatre in Montreal. Aparna Sindhoor, the artistic director of Navarasa Dance Theater is a choreographer and a dancer who has garnered international acclaim for uniting traditional forms with contemporary themes of social relevance. She has performed widely in India, Germany and North America. Currently she is at the Boston University working for a doctoral degree in dance and\n theater. Since 1996 Sindhoor has been working on dance theater form. Working with stories such as The Incident and After, The Hunt, and River Rites, written by contemporary writers, and using Indian classical dance, yoga, songs, stories and folk dances Sindhoor creates work that give new dimension to the content and beauty to the dance performance. Recently she worked as a choreographer in an Indian film by a well-known director Santosh Sivan. Sindhoor lives in Boston, USA and Chennai, India.
