Bedford Library Book Discussion Series -the namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri
The story of two immigrants to Boston from India in 1968 who name their first child, Gogol, when the "good name" doesn't arrive from India. Gogol despises his name and grows up as American as he can possibly be as his parents cling to their Bengali past while living what seems to be a typical American suburban lifestyle.
