Bhangra Bash: the Arts of India On August 27th, ArtsUnion will celebrate Indian culture with “Bhangra Bash: the Arts of India,†a free public festival in Union Square, Somerville! For more info. call 617-625-6600, x2985. This event will feature Falu with Aditya Kalyanpur on tablas, a band that plays a range of Indian music, from rock to classical sounds. MIT’s bhangra dance troupe, Noor-e-Punjab, will perform two festive dances and Beth Lakshmi will perform traditional Bharata Natyam dance. DJ Dhakfu will spin and discuss a range of Indian club music—from Bhangra and Bollywood to Asian Massive and Hindustani. Finally videographer Chris Andrews will present a Bollywood video mix, a playfully edited collage of Bollywood film hits and history. Owners of the local Union Square Indian market, Little India, will be on hand doing henna hand painting and creating a rangoli display. We will also have a ‘mix-your-own-masala’ table where people can create their own mixture of Indian spices.
