Malladi Brothers / Classical Music Enchanting Evening of Classical Music (In aid of Spiritual and Community Projects) By Malladi Brothers (Sri.Rama Prasad and Sri.Ravi Kumar) Supported by Smt.Tara Anand on Violin Sri.Arjun Kumar on Mridangam About the artists: Sri Rama Prasad and Sri Ravikumar known as The Malladi Brothers received their musical training from their father Sri. Malladi Suri Babu, who himself is a disciple of Sri Voleti Venkateswarulu. The brothers have sustained a classic and symbolic expression of Carnatic music, bagging awards from AIR, Sri Krishna Gana Sabha and the Music Academy. They have received additional training from nageetha Kalanidhi Sri Pada Pinakapani and his well-known disciple, Sangeetha Kalanidhi, Sri Nedunuri Krishnamurthy. The Brothers, hailing from Andhra Pradesh, had the advantage of knowing the essence and depth of the Telugu compositions of Tyagaraja, and hence their rendition of the `krithis' were crisp and lucid, with the `sahitya' never being a casualty, as it usually is with many artists. Tara Anand, an accomplished violinist and vocalist in the Carnatic tradition, began vocal training at the age of four. Her gurus have included esteemed artists such as T.M.Tyagarajan, K.V.Krisnan and Shankara Sarma. She began violin at the age of eight with Mrs.Vedavalli Ramaswami of Delhi and Mrs.T. Rukmini of Madras. She gave her first vocal concert at the age of eight and subsequently performed with some very great artists such as T.R.Subramaniam, M.L.Vasanthakumari, Prof.Ramanathan, Sudha Raghunathan, Nookala China Satyanarayana, R. Vedavalli, Sikkil Mala, R. K. Srikantan and Ravikiran to mention a few. Tara has received numerous awards from the Music Academy and Krishna Gana Sabha in Madras, including Best Junior Artist for three years in a row. She has also played solos with her Guru Smt.T. Rukmini. She has been teaching music - both vocal and violin - for over 15 years and is one of the most sought after teachers in the area. Her teaching is marked by exacting standards, care and concern for her students and an infectious love of music; she is a community treasure. Her students have done extremely well at the annual Cleveland competitions and won numerous awards. Hailing from a family of mridangists, Arjun Kumar was initiated into the art of mridangam playing at the young age of five by his father, Sri. Arjunan, one of the very senior artists in the field of percussion. He then came under the tutelage of the mridangam legend, Sri. Umayalpuram K. Sivaraman. Kumar soon became one of the youngest 'A' Grade artists of All India Radio and Television. He has played in prestigious programs such as the South Zone Hook Up and the All India Sangeetha Sammelan. He has traveled widely and performed in concerts with senior artists in US, Canada and other places.
