The Indian Wants the Bronx Two plays by Wakefield native, Gloucester Stage artistic director, and internationally-known playwright Israel Horovitz, It's Called the Sugar Plum and The Indian Wants the Bronx premiered together in 1968. In Sugar Plum, two Harvard undergraduates quarrel over whose life has been more changed by a recent death. Indian highlights the viciousness below the veneer of "civilization" as two men abuse a foreigner because they can. Horovitz doesn't provide facile answers to the conundrums presented in either play. We think you'll leave the theatre trying to figure out what the hell you just watched. And we think that's a good thing.
