FREE Solstice lights
Portable generators and giant floodlights help brighten the shortest day of the year in Holiday Lights on the Charles. The display, created by light artist John Powell, will illuminate four bridges, including Anderson Bridge, Weeks Footbridge, and bridges crossing the Charles at River Street and Western Avenue. The Charles River Conservancy is hoping this event highlights efforts to restore the bridges and renew parklands of the Charles River Basin. The lights will be on from 5-9 p.m. on Friday. At 5:30 p.m., a ceremony with guest speakers plus cider and donuts will be held on Weeks Footbridge. Free. 617-641-9131.
