“Glimpse of India” Fair and Walkathon The Milan Cultural Association of Connecticut will host a “Glimpse of India” fair and walkathon on Saturday, Sept. 25, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Riverfront Plaza in downtown Hartford. The walk begins at 11 a.m. and goes for two miles. Participants may register on the plaza beginning at 10 a.m. All age groups are welcome. Suggested donation for the walkathon is $5 per person. Proceeds will benefit The Courant Community Fund, a fund of the Robert R. McCormick Tribune Foundation, which raises money to support Connecticut children and families in need. “We feel that multicultural events such as this help foster better understanding and build constructive relationships and mutual trust among various cultures here in Connecticut,” said Suresh Sharma, president of Milan. “In addition, the event will address a social issue common to all of us, needy families and children.” The “Glimpse of India” fair begins at noon and will feature an exciting array of Indian cultural events and offerings, including traditional foods from area restaurants, music, dancing, clothing, jewelry, films, handicrafts and Henna hand painting. Milan is a non-profit cultural and educational organization established in Connecticut in 1998. Its members are people of Indian origin living in Connecticut. Milan’s mission is “to provide a bridge between the cultures of India and America by making people aware of Indian culture, heritage and traditions.” During the past several years, Milan, in cooperation with other Indian organizations, has sponsored a number of cultural and educational events to benefit charitable organizations.
