Mehfil / Gujarati Gazal Jalso Gujrati Gazal Jalso with Raish Maniar - one of the top Gujrati poets. Chandrakant Shah Pritam Lakhlani - a very popular poet from Rochester, NY. Dr. Raeesh Maniar: Dr. Raeesh Maniar, at a young age of 37, is considered among top Gujarati poets. His collections of gazals “Kafiyanagar” and “Shabda mara svabhav ma j nathi” are widely acclaimed. Apart from writing gazals, he has mastered the lighter form of gazal, known as “Hazal.” His hazals have featured on television in some very popular programs like “Gammat Gulal” and “Khadkhadat”. His selected poems have been published under the title “Sparshi shakay pushpne zakal thaya pachhi”. “ Pannine pahtay to keto ni” is collection of his humorous poems. He has also written two well-acclaimed books, namely, “Mahol mushairono” & “Mariz : Astitva ane vyaktitva”. He has translated Kaifi Azmi’s poems in Gujarati. This book was inaugurated by Amitabh Bachchan in Mumbai & by Javed Akhtar in Surat. He has translated Javed Akhtar’s poems in Gujarati. He has been awarded the prestigious “ Shayda” award for year 2000 by Indian National Theatre for his literary achievements in field of gazals. Pritam Lakhlani: Pritam Lakhlani, a Computer Scientist by profession is a very popular poet from Rochester NY. In a very short period of time Pritam has four poetry collections published. ‘Godhuli’ ‘Damak’ ‘Sanket’ and ‘Aquarium maan Dariyo’. Pritam’s genius is Mono-Image poems. A short poem with a single thought. His essays from real-life anecdotes are collected as a book titled ‘Sugandh ni Parab’ ‘Drashtikon’ is his first short stories collection. His profiles of popular people are collected in a book titled ‘Shabd ni Frame maa’. Within last 2 years Pritam had edited four collections of writings of Gujarati Poets and writers residing in North America. Titled ‘Baraf maan megh-dhanush’ ‘ Dariya paar na darpan maan’ ‘Flower vase’ and ‘America Oovach’. Pritam’s dramatic presentation style makes him a very presentable poet in Mushairaas. Chandrakant Shah: Chandrakant Shah’s book of poems in Gujarati Ane Thoda Sapna published by SNDT University (Mumbai) 1992 was awarded the best collection of New Gujarati poems published in 1992-1993 by Gujarati Sahitya Parishad. His second collection of poems - ‘BLUE JEANS’ has been subscribed as a textbook for Masters students at SDNT University, Mumbai, India. As a playwright, he is popularly known as a writer of Khelaiya (1981) a milestone in Gujarati theatre history, a modern Musical inspired by the longest running American Musical the Fantasticks. His Broadway style Gujarati musical ‘Eva Mumbai maa chaal jaiye’ loosely based on West Side Story was a BIG hit in Mumbai. Chandrakant has acted in a one-man show based on the life of NARMAD and this created a milestone in Gujarati theatre. His musical ‘Master Phulmani’ based on the traditional indian Theatrical styles and on the life of legendary Gujarati actor Jayshanker Sundari is a big commrecial hit in Mumbai.
