Workshop With Kathak Dance Master Pandit Chitresh Das
Experience the excitement of Kathak dance through the genius of Pandit Chitresh Das, one of the most dynamic dancers and artistic forces to have emerged from Modern India. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to participate in (or observe) the art of Kathak, North Indian Classical Dance, with this renowned master. This workshop will be in two parts. Part I, “Introduction to Kathak Dance,” will give an overview of the many aspects of this form. Kathak's fluid movement and hand gestures (mudras), percussive footwork and complex rhythms and an ancient storytelling tradition make this workshop with one of Kathak's greatest masters fascinating for everyone! For both the complete novice and those with some dance experience. Part II, “Nritta,” will focus on Kathak footwork, technique, rhythms, spins, and introduce the concept of “readiness” (improvisation) in this art from. It will also explore some of the mathematical concepts, and touch upon similarities/differences between Kathak and other percussive dance forms. Dance experience recommended.
