The Power of Education: Fighting AIDS in Asia and the World A powerful documentary, Pandemic: Facing AIDS, follows the personal stories of people living with AIDS and sets the context for a discussion on the critical role of education in slowing the impact of the disease. Even though schools have the potential to play an invaluable role in communicating with adolescents and youth about HIV/AIDS, these very schools in many Asian and African countries are losing their students and teachers to the AIDS crisis. Screening of Pandemic will be followed by a discussion with Rory Kennedy, cofounder of MoxieFirecracker and producer and director of Pandemic, and Shirley Malcolm, Head of Education and Human Resources at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Ms. Kennedy and Dr. Malcolm will discuss the challenges facing communities and schools, and how schools, educators, and youth networks can and must be enlisted in the fight against HIV/AIDS, both in the U.S. and Asia.
