Padmabhushan Dr. Prabha Atre/Hindustani Classical Vocal Concert Accompanied by Harmonium: Dr. George Ruckert Tabla: Shree. Nitin Mitta Dr. Prabha Atre An eminent personality in the field of music, Dr. Prabha Atre has earned for herself a place of distinction as a brilliant thinker, performer, composer and teacher of music. She is one of the senior most front ranking female vocalists in the country representing the Kirana Gharana. She was honored with the National Award 'Padmabhushan' in 2002 and the 'Sangeet Natak Academy' Award in 1991 as the Indian Government's appreciation for her outstanding role in the Indian art music. Her public concerts, radio and TV programs and lecture - demonstrations in India and abroad have always been highly appreciated. Dr. Prabha Atre was trained in the traditional 'Gurukul' system by the late Sureshbabu Mane and his famous sister, Padmabhushan Hirabai Badodekar, both stalwarts of the Kirana Gharana. Whether Khayaal, Taraana, Thumri, Daadra, Ghazal or Bhajan, she has a distinct style and typical ingenuity in design and presentation. Indeed, her chaste and creative approach, her imaginative play with subtleties of tones and dynamics, her effortless control over intricate yet appealing phrases in aalaap, taan and sargam, her precise articulation of words and stirring portrayal of the emotional themes, all these make her music a singularly satisfying experience. Dr. George Ruckert A performer, composer, arranger, author and teacher, George Ruckert is a rare breed of artists who has an extensive background in the disciplines of both western and Indian classical music. He is one of the senior-most disciples of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. Besides being a very capable solo artist on the sarod, George is also a very accomplished harmonium player and has performed with several of the finest artist on the harmonium. Shree. Nitin Mitta A young and promising tabla artiste from India, is a disciple of Pt. Arvind Mulgaonkar of Mumbai. Nitin has accompanied many eminent musicians of Indian classical music including Padmavibhushan Pandit Jasraj, Pt. Rajan and Sajan Mishra and Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt. He teaches tabla in Rhode Island and at LearnQuest Academy of Music in Waltham, MA.
