Revolutionary Green: Transforming the Indian Food System Building upon colonial era projects, the Green Revolution introduced industrial agriculture to India at a massive scale. Industrialization and financialization of food have deepened post liberalization; while it claims to provide food security, India still has more malnourished children than anywhere else and vanishing water tables, extensive damage to the environment and farmer suicides suggest that the current system is unsustainable. How did we get to this stage? Can we imagine a better future of food for everyone? What new technologies, business and social models are needed for that to happen? These are some of the questions that we will pose and begin to address in this workshop. This workshop is also the launch of a one year project that will take a comprehensive look at the food system in India, at the end of which we will present a summation and possible courses of action to rejuvenate and restore the food system.
