Pritam Bhattacharjee with Prithwiraj Bhattacharjee



Artist Bios:

Pritam Bhattacharjee:
Blessed with a mellifluous voice and exceptional versatility, Pritam Bhattacharjee is one of the most accomplished and acclaimed Indian Classical vocalists of his generation, who has performed at most of the prestigious festivals around the world. Pritam's musical excellence far belies his age and has won recognition and appreciation of music lovers, enthusiasts and connoisseurs, globally. He is a leading exponent of the illustrious Mewati Gharana.

In addition to being a renowned vocalist, Pritam is also a brilliant and an acclaimed composer, who has written and composed over 400 compositions in different 'Ragas', which he has presented at many festivals. Pritam has also experimented with different genres of music through his own compositions and performances.

Hailing from Silchar, Assam in India, Pritam is one of the foremost disciples of the legendary Mewati Maestro Sangeet Martand Pandit Jasraj ji, and has received rigorous training under Pandit Jasraj ji's tutelage since he was 12 years old. In one of the most blessed moments, Pritam's dream came true when Pandit Jasraj ji, who was visiting Silchar for a performance, himself encouraged and accepted Pritam as his disciple upon hearing Pritam sing one of Pandit ji's rendition in an impeccable way. Impressed by Pritam's singing style, skill and talent, Pandit Jasraj ji accepted him as his disciple under the traditional 'Guru-Shishya Parampara' method of imparting knowledge.

Pritam had earlier begun his initial training at a tender age of 4 years from his mother Mrs. Manjushree Bhattacharjee and then under other Gurus including, Shri Sudhanshu Deb, Shri Vijay Chakraborty and Shri Amarendra Chakraborty.

While Pritam is ably carrying forward the rich Mewati tradition and legacy, he has further enhanced and embellished his 'gaayaki' (style of singing) with more aesthetic elements.

Prithwiraj Bhattacharjee:
Among the most accomplished and leading tabla players today, began his initial training under Dhiranjan Chakraborty at the tender age of seven. Then the tabla legends Late Ustad Alla Rakha and Ustad Zakir Hussain accepted him as a disciple and he has learnt under their tutelage since.

Blessed with incredible ability of percussion and innate creativity, Prithwi has progressed to become a tabla player of very high order. Today, he is one of the most sought after and accomplished Tabla players of his generation. Prithwi has given solo performances at several prestigious concerts and traveled extensively all over India and abroad accompanying many eminent artists, including Pandit Jasraj, Ustad Shahid Pavez , Kala Ramnath, Tejendra Narayan Majumdar, Laxmi Shankar ,Rahul Sharma and many more.

With his Guru's blessings and his uncompromising dedication and passion for Indian Classical Music and percussions, Prithwi is ably carrying forward the rich Punjab tradition and legacy of his Gurus in India, USA and other parts of the world. Prithwi is currently the faculty at the Pt Jasraj School of Music, Atlanta Chapter. Through his teachings and performances in the USA and globally, he is expanding horizons of music and contributing proficiently to the cultural heritage and environment in the USA

Ramchandra Joshi:
Ramchandra Joshi is an accomplished vocalist as well as an established harmonium player. Inducted to the world of music at the tender age of 8 years, he trained with Smt. Krishna Mukherjee and Smt. Sraboni Mukherjee in Light Classical Music. He currently receives guidance from the renowned vocalist of Gwalior Gharana, Dr.Veena Sahasrabuddhe. He has toured extensively in India, USA, UK and Switzerland.
