IAGB India Day 2014 - Invitation Letter
Dear Prospective Participant,
IAGB is pleased to announce that we will be celebrating India’s 68th Independence Day at the Hatch Memorial Shell, Boston, MA on August 17, 2014 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Independence Day/ Swatantrata Diwas is a national holiday in India commemorating the nation's independence from British rule on 15 August 1947. It will be an opportunity for all Indians to celebrate this auspicious day with programs that reflect the undaunted patriotic spirit towards our motherland India, including ethnic folk, pure classical, creative contemporary and Bollywood dances that showcase the rich diversity of INDIA!!!
Performing in this show would mean showcasing your group’s talent in front of a discerning audience of about 5000+ people, who will cheer every moment of your performance!!!
1) THEME: “Khushiyon Ki Rangoli – Celebrating the JOY of being an Indian!!!†This time we will showcase thematic items (songs and dances) depicting the varied ‘flavors’ of joy that resonate our love for our motherland India!!! JOY, as in, but not limited to: • Joy of freedom • Joy of festivals • Joy of rituals/traditions • Joy of language/expression • Joy of food • Joy of singing • Joy of dancing
We trust that we will have your enthusiastic and whole-hearted support in this endeavor!

Quality, Innovation and theme based items are some of the crucial criteria that will be applied towards selecting items. • Cultural Committee’s decision will stand final. • All entries/groups will be notified by email once the item selection process is complete.
7) **Face-to-face meeting**: IAGB Cultural Committee will be holding a face-to-face meeting with the choreographers of all participating/ registered groups to review submitted items and their due adherence to the program theme.
Note: A separate email reminder will be sent out to all registered groups, as it gets closer to the meeting date.
8) Since the tragic Boston Marathon bombings in 2013, the cost of celebrating India Independence Day at the Hatch Shell has more than doubled due to new, more stringent security requirements. As a result, IAGB did not hold the event last year at the Hatch Shell. As part of the efforts to bring the India Independence Celebrations back to the Hatch Shell, there is a program registration fee of $20.00 per participant, which also registers and provides for an Annual IAGB membership.
** Children of current or Life members do not need to pay any registration fee.
9) Key dates to remember – • June 20th, 2014 (Friday) – Deadline for all potential participant groups to send in their submissions along with the link to their practice video (Please note that submissions without videos will be considered incomplete) •June 30th, 2014 (Monday) – Culture Committee to notify all groups regarding their selection • July 28th, 2014 (Monday) – Deadline to send in Item Entry Fee, Dress Rehearsal Video and Final MP3. **We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers!!!**. If you would like to volunteer to help IAGB on the event day, please let us know via email, with subject line “India Day volunteerâ€.
