Prof. Madhusudan Chakraborty, Dean of Alumni Affairs, IIT Kharagpur was in Boston on June 15th. IIT KGP - New England Network and IIT SINE organized a reception and dinner at Bombay Club to enable alumni to meet the Dean.

The purpose of Prof. Chakraborty’s visit was to drive alumni relations, nurture alumni local chapters around the world and help the alumni as well as IIT KGP become a leader in Global Networking Platform. IIT Foundation, global network of IIT KGP alumni, sponsored Prof. Chakraborty’s trip to United States. Prior to Boston he visited Houston, Los Angeles, Seattle and Chicago.

In response to questions on how IIT alum can give back to their alma mater, the answer from the dean was very clear. “Visiting us and mentoring the current students are primary needs from the Alumni,” said Prof. Chakraborty “ other ways that alumni can support include helping students find internships and full-time jobs, providing counseling on career opportunities, advising institute on industry trends and identifying focus areas of the departments and sponsoring research.”

Prof. Chakraborty talked about some of the major contributions of IIT-KGP alumni to the institute. “In India, the trend of giving back to alma mater is fairly recent. Vinod Gupta had opened our eyes by funding a School of Management at IIT Kharagpur,” said Prof. Chakraborty. G.S Sanyal School of Telecommunications, campus wide network and connectivity including hostels, Distinguished Lecture Series and Alumni Scholarships, funded by alumni have made a great impact on the institute.

Puran Dang (alumnus of batch of 57 ) who is the founder of IIT SINE was instrumental in making this event happen. It was a great opportunity for the alumni to meet and network. “We will have more programs and strengthen the IIT KGP Alumni Network in Boston,” said Puran Dang.
