The Triveni School of Dance has been producing benefit shows for deserving charities for the past 30 years. Most of the performances have been sold out and received tremendous applause.
This year, the Triveni Ensemble presents The Sacred and the Sensuous, a show that captures the spectrum of love experienced by these women for Lord Krishna, from longing to desire to surrender.
Each woman has a unique experience in loving the unpredictable Lord Krishna. His mother, Yashoda, had the daunting task of nurturing a God, for almost immediately, she saw the whole world within him. Draupadi sees Krishna as a brother, a protector from the harsh realities of the world. For Radha, Krishna's absence turns the beauty of spring into a haunting reminder of her longing for what she believes is most beautiful. Krishna's wife Satyabhama, usually preoccupied with self-indulgence and vanity, could never forget her deep, pure love for Krishna and the joy he brings her. Mira leaves behind her worldly possessions to give herself in complete devotion to her Lord. The Gopikas, youthful and naive, open their hearts to be toyed with by the mischievous Lord. Although these great women had personalities that could contend with the Lord, he still was able to steal their hearts.
Join the Triveni Ensemble at the Boston University Dance Theater on Saturday April 19th at 6:30pm and Sunday April 20th at 4:00pm. To purchase tickets, visit www.trivenidance.org or email TriveniEnsemble@gmail.com. Proceeds will benefit the Akshaya Patra Foundation (www.foodforeducation.org).
