Baaje Tori Paayaliya: Divas of Dance: A fundraiser for Sankara Cancer Foundation March 1st, 2014 a resounding success!
An entertaining evening of music and dance highlighting various famous actors from Hindi Films including Vyjayantimala, Padmini, Waheeda Rehman, Hema Malini, Madhuri Dixit, Gopi Krishna, Sandhya, Sridevi, Rekha, Aruna Irani, Helen, Asha Parekh, Aishwarya Rai and Deepika Padukone, all known for their dancing skills regaled a packed auditorium and an appreciative audience with wonderful songs and dances from their movies.
Baaje Tori Paayaliya was an event that uniquely blended the legacy of these famous actors with live dances and singing and presents an evening of enthralling dance and music, along with narration outlining these wonderful actors and their achievements. The event was produced by Meena Sundaram with an organizational team including Jawed Wahid, Vijay Kumar and Rajesh Vaidheeswaran and a large group of on-stage performers and back-stage organizers and volunteers.
This event brought together over 100 participants including a number of excellent singers in the area is participating with numerous exemplary dancers from various schools led by creative and dedicated teacher-choreographers. Various genres of singing and dancing styles were represented with unique choreography ranging from semi-classical to folk to modern/fusion dance forms.
Accomplished and erudite Emcees introduced the Divas, skilful AV images of the artistes, stage management teams and organizational and creative teams wove a show that skilfully paid homage to many wonderful Divas and celebrated their achievements.
From the tastefully decorated lobby and stage, the event enveloped the audience in a vibrant and colorful medley of music and dance. From Bharatnatyam, Kathak to Marathi, Gujarati and Rajasthan folk to semi classical and fusion , each item was creatively and lovingly presented. The variety of songs ranged from semi classical numbers like “ Koi Matwala aaya mere dware†and “ Matwali Naar†to “ Hawa Hawaii†and folk songs like “ Mharo hivde and “ Main Kolhapur se aayi hoonâ€
“This concept is something I had hoped to bring to fruition as a partnership between dancers and singers in our community and we are so thrilled and gratified that people came to support this event in large numbers and we have had such wonderful feedback for our event. All credit goes to our organizing team, singers, dance teachers/choreographers and their students, emcees, backstage personnel, volunteers and SCF team members.†, said Meena Sundaram, the producer and creative director.
"The show was an incredible success from both an entertainment perspective as well as from the perspective of fund raising and educating the guests about Sankara Cancer Foundation and what we do" said Rajesh Vaidheeswarran, the President of Sankara Cancer Foundation. "It was very satisfying to get feedback from our guests about how they enjoyed not just the show, but also the various exhibits, particularly the work of the Sankara Youth Group," he added.
Mr. Kamakoti Vydyanathan, the secretary of SCF adds "Our aim is to raise $100,000 to fund a breast cancer screening program this year and get it running. The $15,000 we have raised in this event is a very good start, and we sincerely thank our donors for that and we encourage everyone who reads this to generously donate to the cause and help us reach that goal at www.sankaracancer.org."

I don't believe I have seen so much talent on one stage, all in one show. Just incredible and mind blowing Awesome divas!!!! Music was superb and the dances were a visual treat.
