The response to the Asian Art Gallery inaugural show was incredible. It was heartwarming to see the support from the community and how it brought so many art enthusiasts together. Being the first such gallery focused on emerging artists from Asia in the Boston area, it gave everybody a chance to experience and explore the newly discovered talents.
The show collection Ethnic Concurrence had diverse styles of 11 emerging artists from India supporting the common theme of preserving India's ethnicity. Everyone enjoyed interacting with the artist Mark Rathinaraj, who also led the team that curated the show. In addition, it was a treat to see Mark's depiction of Indian performers with minimal lines demonstrating his absolute control over his strokes.
We had over 125 people visit during the weekend. Around 50 unique paintings from the Ethnic Concurrence show were sold. I am really excited for the artists, as this is a huge confidence booster and testament to the great art they created. This also demonstrates breaking traditional barriers and models in the art world where a few control what and who become successful artists. Asian Art Gallery will provide such exposure and opportunities to emerging modern and contemporary artists through shows and online leveraging social media.
There are three Boston shows planned for next year - most likely emerging artists from Myanmar (aka Burma) in April 2014, a solo show in June 2014 and a group show in Fall 2014. Asian Art Gallery will also be collaborating with charitable organizations.
