Recently there has been a spate of burglaries in homes specifically targeting Indian Americans in New England. We thought it appropriate that we should alert our readers to take some simple measures to secure their homes especially during the holiday season.
We learnt that this year Lexington reported 5, Woburn, 4, Burlington 5, Nashua 9 and Connecticut 22 burglaries of Indian American homes. We learnt that the gang is very professional and knows what it wants: gold jewelry. We learnt that they are coming from back sliding glass door, breaking the fixed part of the door and going though basement, all the rooms and the attic. They are not taking computers and electronics.
Here are a few tips
1.Ensure and take steps to protect your valuables by using safe deposit box at a bank or immovable vaults.
2. If possible secure your homes with proper security measures including alarm systems.
3. Talk to your neighbors to watch out for each other and report any suspicious cars or prowlers. Especially when you are on vacation.
4.Almost all the burglarized homes had either no alarm systems or they were not turned on.
6.Keep some lights on even when you are away.
7. Vary the pattern of going in and out of home so it seems that there is no schedule.
