Press Release 11/06/2013 Saturday, November 16: 10:00am – 4:30pm Experience and enjoy the rich flavors, music, stories, crafts, theatre and games of Indian culture – right here in Newton! The second annual Indian Festival sponsored by Newton Community Pride and the Mayor’s Office for Cultural Affairs, “promises a lively and enriching ‘visit’ to India,†according to event Chair Lakshmi Narayan.. “There’s a little piece of Indian culture in every space of Newton City Hall to explore,†said Lakshmi. Taste delicious Indian cuisine catered by Gourmet India on our second floor cafe; try out henna or hair braiding and browse the many craft vendors in the auditorium and meeting rooms. Indian-themed arts and crafts for kids and Indian board games are available free of charge from 10am – noon, as well as a Madhubani Painting Demonstration, and a “Cultural Grooves of India†video. Then, the afternoon of entertainment begins, with a theatre performance by SETU – an Indian theatre group performing a selection in English from ‘Shah Jahan and the Indian epic “Mahabharata. The entertainment schedule from 1:00pm – 4:00pm features classical and folk music and dances preformed by reputed local Indian music and dance schools. The full schedule is available at www.newtoncommunitypride.org. The festival ends with everyone invited to participate in lively Bollywood Zumba, led by Newton’s own Param Roychondhury. The Festival is sponsored by Flawless Dental of Newton Center and Gourmet India. Ruth Barnett, President of Newton Community Pride emphasized that this festival is one in a series sponsored with the City to highlight the many cultures of Newton. Admission is free.
