Summer continues to fight to make an appearance in New England this year. In the meantime, the organizers and volunteers of the annual Vrindavana Preservation Society (VPS) have been hard at work, planning the annual Cricket Tournament. The tournament is now in its 11th year and is the most prestigious Cricket tournament in New England.
Cricket, a game popular mostly in most Common Wealth countries continues to grow in popularity and has gone through several incarnations in the last few decades. From its initial and oldest form of the five day game, the game has morphed into a one day game and most recently into T20, a game that lasts a few hours. The T20 format has proved to be the most challenging to players and the most exciting for spectators. The VPS Tournament will be based on the T20 format . The games of the tournament will include commentary music and free lunches.
The tournament will be held at the Joy Hanlon grounds in Quincy Massachusetts and will be played on the following days:
Saturday the 15th and Sunday the 16th of June 2013, 8AM to 5PM on both days. Saturday the 22nd and Sunday the 23rd of June 2013, 8AM to 5PM on both days.
This year promises to be one of the most exciting years for the tournament as 24 teams from all over New England will fight to win the coveted trophy. The Joy Hanlon grounds is situated with the backdrop of Quincy’s backwaters and also includes a beach, making it an ideal picnic spot for families to relax and enjoy a game or more of Cricket. As mentioned earlier, free lunches and refreshments will be server for everyone on all days of the tournament. The Vrindavana Preservation Society(VPS) is a South Shore based non-profit organization that seeks to promote Indian culture around the world. With charters in India and Boston, the organization is run exclusively by volunteers.
Please bring family and friends to have a fun day of merriment and Cricket at the Joy Hanlon fields. We look forward to seeing you there.
