India vs India – Local Strength or Global Growth?

It is a well-known adage that for every definitive statement made about India, a directly contradictory statement can be made that is just as true as the first. How can one of the world's most dynamic and fastest-growing economies lag so far behind its competitors in R&D and technology? How does the world's largest secular democracy understand its history of religious violence? How does the world's largest slum proliferate in the midst of a shining new hub of international commerce?

India's baffling diversity has daunted generation after generation of students, entrepreneurs, researchers, policymakers, and visionaries. As all eyes turn to the subcontinent, demanding answers to these and many more questions about the mythical 'Indian narrative,' India's diversity poses challenge, tension, and opportunity.

On March 9-10, Harvard University and a roster of global luminaries gather to embrace the most powerful reality of the Indian story: that there is no single, universal Indian narrative. The India Conference at Harvard, India vs. India: Local Strength vs. Global Growth, brings together business leaders, entertainment professionals, government officials, philanthropists, and many others to engage with their strands of the colorful Indian narrative in a multiplicity of fields. The focus will be not on oversimplifying, but on encouraging complexity and controversy.

This year’s keynote speakers include:

Dr. Arun K. Singh, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of India,  Washington D.C
Sam Pitroda, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Public Information Infrastructure and Innovation
Ashish Singh, Chairman, Bain India
Siddharth Roy Kapur, Managing Director - Studios, Disney UTV

Panels at the conference include: Philanthropy in India: Challenges and Opportunities, Solutions for the Emerging Generation, Rural India: Story Teller's Dream or Nightmare, Education Panel, Politics as a vocation: Pathways for young people to ennoble Indian politics, The way forward for Indian women in business, India - The Next Investment Frontier, Social Enterprise in India: Low cost products for wide market access, Developing India's Silicon Valley, The White Revolution: Dairy Innovation in India and Abroad, Healthcare Innovations in India: Challenges and Opportunities, and Entrepreneurship.
