New England Tamil Sangam (NETS) celebrated its Pongal Vizhaa 2013 on February 2nd at Littleton High School. The event started at 2.30 p.m. with a Tamil Patriotic Song and went on continuously for the next 6 hours with a very short snack break. At every event NETS is keen on bringing some new concept and this Pongal Vizhaa was no exception. Decorations were more traditional with Pongal pot, Sugarcane and Clay Dolls portraying Village and Maatu Pongal.  NETS introduced the Raffle Concept for the first time and gave away 4 prizes for the winners. Pongal Restaurant at its best provided the dinner and sponsored the event as well as provided the prizes for the raffle. We had many sponsors this time and the audiences were attracted by the variety in stalls.

This is remarkably a variety show which gave us delight for our eyes and ears. Songs included Our Nation’s Great Poet – Subramanya Bharathiyar, Thiruppugal, Patriotic Songs and Cine related. We got to see many varieties in our Cultural Dance Bharatanatyam; started with Alarippu and continued with Jathiswaram, Thillana. There was a good number of Drama/Skit this time. Kid’s involvements in all the programs were extra-ordinary.

Parents took greater responsibility in getting their kid’s costume ready for their respective event. All programs were excellent – to name a few Arabia Istanbul Dance, Patriotic Songs, Bharathiar Songs, Therottam Drama, Yoga Skit – Ancient Therukoothu, Let Us Live  Skit, Jathiswaram and Alarippu geared applauses. NETS President Mr. Ramesh Venkat gave the community updates. Event was emceed by Mrs. Bamiela Venkat and Mr. Poongundran. All Participated kids were rewarded with trophies.

Ending Vote of Thanks was nicely presented by our NETS Treasurer Mr.Chennakesavan. We remembered our NETS Sloga - “To spread Tamil, kindly speak Tamil with the Tamil People”. Overall our event is a great success – Thanks to the Weather in giving us the snowstorm a week later. Let the sweetness of the year start continue all over the year and brings us all fortune, health and wealth.
