A Beautiful Art Exhibit by Meena Mehta
When you walk into the exhibit, you are surrounded by eye-catching paintings and an overall well designed display. There are canvases, watercolors, terrariums, poems, and photographs that you are drawn to. There is an inviting and cozy feeling as you enter the room. Meena Mehta and her family worked hard to create a brilliant exhibit at Wayside Racquet & Swim Club in Marlborough, MA. The exhibition was open to public for the month of January.
The highlights of the exhibit were paintings by Meena. These included a giant Junonia shell, impressions of Hindu Gods, magnificent flowers, and a delicately painted bride among other unique creations. Apurva, her husband, loves gardening and specializes in making terrariums. Together they have built terrariums that are beautiful nature representations within glistening globes. Some of these on display included a Gingerbread House, a Christmas Scene, Lord Ganesha, and a Cacti Garden.
Meena graciously answered some questions about her early artistic experiences. Her interest in the arts began at a young age. She entered and won numerous art competitions during her school years. In college, she created hand-made and embellished greeting cards bought by leading art and book suppliers in Mumbai. Her paintings included nature, wildlife, forests, and impressions of people. Objects with intricate detail, in particular, caught her attention. She studied science during her time at university but continued to paint for her family. After moving to the United States, she graduated from Massachusetts College of Art with a BFA in Graphic Design. She later started her own company specializing in graphic design for the web. Her various clients include Dunkin Brands, Houghton Mifflin Publishing, and many others in Education, Biotech and Technology. You can learn more about her professional work at: www.TwoMs.com
Meena’s family supports her ideas and interests. They also shared some of their own creative works. Their older son, Anchit, is a freshman at Amherst who has a passion for swimming. He portrayed this through his poem, “Ode to the Oceanâ€, which was also on display. Shiv, the younger one, is a freshman in high school and is also on the swim team. His other passions include music and photography. He combined the two by shooting striking black and white photographs of his guitar. The family has also authored and illustrated a children’s book.
Meena has expressed her excitement towards painting as it allows her to express life in vibrant colors and allows connection with nature. Now that her kids are grown up, she finds time to revive her life-long passion. Her visions for her next few paintings consist of folk and ethnic cultures, Indian Gods, and other unique subjects, close to her heart. I am sure we will be seeing more delightful creations from Meena and wish her the best. She can be reached at: meenadesign@yahoo.com.
